False Ceiling

In the case of framework of false ceiling, it must be sufficiently strong to take its own load plus the load of one or two workers to work on it. For designing the framework, it is necessary to consider the dead weight of all members of false ceiling and the span of space. First of all, framework is done. Generally this is done with the help of steel or wooden members depending on the span and the cost.

First the rafters are fixed depending on the structural requirement, then further it is divided into small areas depending on the available sizes of the materials to be fixed and the rigidity of substructure. Sometimes instead of angle iron, wooden buttons can be used for fixing the material.

Ceiling

In the case of soft materials again we need T or channel similar to wall lining to fix the material and if the span is longer and section of rafter is smaller than the rafters can be given hanging supports from the structural roof.

Nowadays fiber glass is used on a large scale for appearance and other purposes like artificial sky of a planetarium which is fixed directly with main structure with the help of some special carbohydrates gum-materials.

Sometimes gunny bags or clothes are stretched with the help of wires or ropes or even on the wooden frame depending on the span. The construction of frame for false ceiling also depends on the site conditions, materials available, requirement, cost and other members, available along with main structural members.

Let’s Stay a Little Longer, its still Early

Have you ever been to a place and wanted to stay forever? Have you taken the time to relish your excellent surroundings? Have you wondered what it was about that place that made you want to stay on for longer? People feel that way sometimes and a big part of the reasons that make them want to tarry is the excellent furniture that makes their surroundings look trendy. Of course, the crowd plays a big role in relieving any boredom that may be threatening to come but the furniture also plays it role in terms of providing a place to put the feet down for a bit. There are places and occasions where cafe furniture serves an exceptional purpose;

Parties

The idea behind throwing a lavish party is to allow people to mingle and enjoy themselves as they unravel. This means that, the furniture should not be bulky. This furniture should be relatively easy to move around to allow people to play the party games that most exciting parties are known for. Furniture that can be rearranged easily is ideal for the unforgettable party experience. These parties can include birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and any other reason to have a roaring bash.

Corporate functions

Companies like to hold many functions to celebrate anniversaries, awards and any other reason which the company feels deserves an event. This means that, arranging for cafe tables and cafe chairs for people to sit on should be done well in advance. The easy movement of these furnishings is important so as to ensure the best logistical arrangements are successful.

Medical dining areas

The sheers amount of human traffic that frequents hospital dining halls is massive. This means that, the furniture needs to be strong and also flexible. It is also very important that the furniture can be cleaned very easily when required. Since this is a hospital setting, cafe fittings are ideal because of their attractive simplicity, ease of use and ability to keep clean properly.

Domestic outdoors

Cafe furnishings can be stylish and tasteful in any domestic setting. This is because; they can be used to match the already existing furniture in the house. They are also particularly suited to relaxing in the backyard with a glass of cool lemonade, ice tea, or hot cocoa. It can also be moved around the compound to any ideal spot that a person would wish to enjoy some personal privacy with the wind in their ears, the sun on their face and a smile on their lips.

Industrial dining areas

Factory workers normally need a place to relax while they are on their lunch break. Since there may be no designated dining area, cafe furnishings are flexible enough to be moved around the compound to any area where they wish to enjoy their lunch break. Cafe furnishings are also solid and can handle the robust weight of many well-built factory workers. This furniture is also easily stackable for storage when it is no longer in use.

Samantha Devon is a freelance interior designer. Her mission is to create beautiful places where people can enjoy their quiet repose. She recommends adaptable cafe chairs whenever the occasion calls for it because they are aesthetically visually appealing, durable and very comfortable.

Window Dressing

There are number of window dressings one can do to enhance the beauty of the windows and thus of the whole room. These range from starkly simple to strikingly elaborate. One can hang under curtains or over draperies or both: lowered shutters or filigree panels, window shades in a choice of roller, traditional or modern styles to roll up and down.

The treatment can be short or long; the material sheer or opaque, lined or unlined, plain or patterned; the decorative effect enhanced by ornamental nods, valences, sways. Appearance of course has a place, but what a person wants a window to do is the primary deciding factor. Windows can be dressed to disguise when not desired or to open up views when desired.

Emulsion Paints

Now-a-days, emulsion paints are used very commonly for highly decorative building surfaces. These paints are applied on smooth surfaces by brush o spray in two coats and second coat may be applied on the same day after first coat. It provides a long life to the painted surfaces.

It can be applied on rough surface also but consumption will be more, to avoid it a prime coat of white cement that can be done to make surface smoother. Emulsions paints are not applied over soft distemper or color wash otherwise it will also come out in the form of scales.

Oil Paints

A large variety of oil paints are available in the market under different trade names. Social grade oil paints are also there which are suitable for alkaline surfaces do provide almost water impervious surfaces. These oil paints may or may not contain synthetic resin but can be applied on alkali resistant primer coat.

Flat oil paints which provide a film of permeable moisture have a shorter service life. These oil paints are never applied on damped surfaces and in humid weather. These paint surfaces i.e., film of paints starts flaking and cracking for which a new coat of only oil paint can work in a better way.

Permanent Partition

Permanent partitions are those which cannot be removed and can be made from floor to roof level with various building materials. For example, filling walls in frame structures or even we can take advantage to make the provision of storage spaces like almirah or wardrobe.

These almirahs and wardrobes materials are then finished with wood or by-products of wood for better appearance. For example a large area can be converted into two bedrooms with the help of wardrobes for both the rooms. Even these type of planning can reduce the cost of construction because in between 2 wardrobes we can have a column.

Mirrors Work Magic

Mirrors work magic, as there are an endless number of visual coups one call pull off in their rooms. When a room is too long and narrow, it can be widened by covering one of the long walls with mirror. If a dressing room is tiny, hanging big mirrors on adjacent walls can get a double playback of space. To get more mileage out of the candle light in a dining room, placing the candles against a mirror will get twice the candle power. Use of a mirror on a blank wall facing a land scape or a scenary would bring this visual beauty into the interior of a room in a fascinating way.

The partitions that create a cramped look can also be made to disappear with the use of a mirror. While wanting to decorate a pillar or the top of a chimney without using a painting or a picture, it can be done with a mirror which would not distract the beauty of the room or the fire place. Thus a mirror can be used in a number of ways to brighten up any space or decorations. Mirrors have been used in decoration for well three thousand years. The mirror of the ancient Egyptians, Greek and Romans was a thin disc of metal, usually bronze slightly convex and polished on one side for viewing. In hand mirrors, the reverse side was often engraved with line drawings, usually of mythological characters.

Many of these metal mirrors, can still seen in museums. It was not until the fourteenth century that the technology was advanced enough to produce glass mirrors in the 15th century that the marking of a flat glass mirror began on a commercial scale. In France, plate glass was invented in 1691, thereby opening the possibilities of a variety of size and far greater availability. Along with mirrors, their frames can also be providing variety and beauty in a room. Painted mirror frame is an important color accent in any room.

Similar effects can also be produced by the use of a shiny material like silver or steel frames. Sometimes color plastics can also be used as frame for the mirrors to create variety. A wooden carved antique mirror frame can be a focal point in any decoration. More than any other element in decoration, the mirror produces a feeling of spaciousness. Entire walls of mirror are the most effectiveness and are not so costly. Permanent reflections in mirrors should be pleasing and would add to the beauty of the room. Mirror tiles may bring both spaciousness and an incomparable gay glitter whenever used.

Wall Treatments

It is important to finish the interior as well as the exterior walls for functional considerations. Since walls are the largest area seen in the interior of any room, it is necessary to pay enough attention to their finishes. Today’s market provides a large number of options as wall coverings to create color effects, illusionary space or to provide theme, mood or style of a room. The wall coverings are therefore, used not merely for functional purposes, but also for aesthetic and other reasons. Few of the materials for wall treatments are:

  • Wood Panels
  • Fabrics
  • Paints
  • Wall Papers
  • Cork
  • Tiles
  • Leather
  • Murals
  • Masonry
  • Mirrors

Wood Paneling: The charm of wood as a wall covering arises from the warm color and beautiful grain, which provides a rich but restrained background for all styles of decoration.

Paint: Paints also permit a precision in matching colors that is virtually impossible with any other wall covering. The major reason for the continued popularity of paint as a wall covering undoubtedly is its low cost. Besides being inexpensive, there is also the scope for changing the decorating scheme frequently.

Cork: This resilient material is valued for its acoustical properties and because of its surface, which can be punctured repeatedly, without noticeable ill effect.

Leather: A luxurious wall covering, leather was popular in seventeenth century. In Holland, effects of great splendor were achieved with heavily embossed “Spanish” leather. Treasured expensive of this material vinyl sheets designed to resemble leather are often used where a masculine setting of a particular richness is desired.

Masonry: Masonry works such as brown stones, brick-walls, rock stones, stones, pebble finishes etc. are all popular for their natural finishes.

Mirrors: Mirrors make the walls glittery and therefore, are currently fashionable as the major component of the super shiny interiors.

Murals: Wall pictures, the oldest known interior decoration, remain a favorite way to give a room individuality.

Tiles: Two special properties of ceramic tiles – its imperviousness to moisture and its wash ability – make them a customary choice for the bathroom and toilet room walls.

Wall Papers: They have become so attractive and exciting in recent years that it’s tempting to go all out for them. Wall papers may be used to create not only an atmosphere; they may also be used in new and different ways to create an infinite variety of novel effects.

Fabrics For Window Treatments

The fabrics used for windows contribute to the character of the room. The new era of textile technology has produced creative fabrics for window treatments. Of all new fabrics, manmade such as nylon, acrylic, rayon, polyester, plastic and fiber glass are the most popular for their qualities such as availability, variety, color fastness, durability and easy to wash and maintain. Fabrics made from manmade fibers are being improved all the time. While purchasing furnishing fabrics, it is important to consider the fabric durability, resistance to sunlight and soil, possible insect damage, suitability, total cost, problems of construction, shape, stability, maintenance and ease of laundering and cleaning. Finishes affect the appearance and performance. Excess starch and sizing are undesirable. They are removed after the first wash or cleaning and the fabric loses its shine and strength.

Chemical treatments are available for the fabrics that make them permanently crisp, crease resistant, moisture and stain repellant, resistant to yarn slippage, washable, shrinkage controlled, non-in-flammable, fade resistant, and wash and war. A customer can look for these qualities. The stiff and cumbersome draperies of the past are out, whereas the trend is for fabrics that are soft and supple, so that they fall in graceful folds. Even in the formal treatments for the traditional rooms, lighting and grace are required. This is available in the fabrics of today that also resist sun and soiling and do away with the need for lining though in some cases it is still desirable. To create a private living and dining room in the evenings when the lights are bright, it is advisable to consider a tightly woven opaque fabric. Tightly woven draw fabrics are also a good choice for a bed room to keep out the morning sun.
